Everyone deserves a support system. Including dogs.

Welcome to Co-Care for Canines – a black-owned, woman-owned small business rooted in the heart of Central Harlem. Founded by fellow New Yorker Nakia Greene, Co-Care for Canines' goal is to provide a judgment-free environment where our neighbors can receive quality care for the dogs in their lives.

Here at Co-Care for Canines, we understand that having a solid support system is essential for dog owners in order to maintain healthy relationships with their furry friends. So regardless of if you are a dog owner navigating a career issue, a dog owner dealing with health issues, or a family unit welcoming a new baby into the home, Co-Care for Canines is available to fill in the gaps that open during life's most difficult transitions.

Life is hard. Owning a dog doesn’t have to be.

The question is never what we do here at Co-Care for Canines but it's what won't we do to help dogs and their owners live happy, stress free lives? The answer is - nothing! We offer a variety of services to address the small moments and make major life changes just a little bit easier. We are a judgment free business, familiar with the highs and lows of mental health and the sensitivities around housing, resource and employment insecurity. Co-Care for Canines was developed from a person first community oriented perspective where the services we provide come secondary to the reason why our customers need us. Testimonials

Nakia & the team have become family. The work she does and the amount she cares and how invested she is, truly warmed our heart. She is an advocate not just for the animals, but in turn, for the adoptees. She would rather fight to assist families & give all that she can to lend a hand, than to see an animal fall (back) or into a shelter of any sort. All that l've experienced Nakia do is pour love and time into the families and the animals - as much community outreach as she can.

Our personal story - We cherish the journey we had going through the adoption process and being paired with a fur baby that is so perfect for our family. A dog that feels like a soul dog, one that reminded us very much about another pit pup we had before.

Nakia really took time to understand us, our personalities, living situation and our desires. We mentioned the type of character, traits, and temperament we were looking for in a pup and she blessed us with the most beautiful dog inside and out but, what we loved most is that she vetted and isn't just looking to place the animals anywhere. She doesn't see this as a numbers game but rather, the quality of life and humans that are being paired with the animal. We are forever grateful.

Nakia and Layah have been nothing short of amazing. It's hard for me to trust anyone else with my dog now. I left for a long trip and was nervous leaving her for the first time, but knowing their extensive experience with all types of dogs made me feel comfortable. She loves them. They picked up on things I didn't even see about my dog, which was fun! They accommodated my changing schedule about five times too. Can't say enough great things.

  • Ivy's Mom

I am always comfortable leaving my dogs with Nakia and Layah and know I don't have to worry about them while I am away. They are reliable and always available when I need them and treat my dogs as their own. As an owner of an aggressive and reactive dog they know how to handle her properly and I know she is safe in their care.

    Highly recommend booking!

  • Shannon (Remi's Mom)

Nakia was fostering our sweet Remi (formerly Ice) when we adopted her. Fostering Remi in a home filled with so much love and security made the transition for her into our home so seamless. Nakia has been a voice of guidance to us as puppy parents and has built the connections for us to keep close to Remi’s mom and siblings and their forever families. I am eternally grateful for the love she has shown our girl and for her support of us as we welcomed Remi into our home.
